How to Become a Louisiana Notary:
To become a notary in Louisiana, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be a Louisiana resident for income tax purposes and claim the Louisiana residence as your primary residence on state and federal tax returns
- Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident
- Be able to read, write and understand the English language
- Not be disqualified to receive a commission under section ARS §41-271
- Pass the examination described in section ARS §41-270 required by the secretary of state.
- Keep as a reference a manual that is approved by the secretary of state and that describes the duties, authority and ethical responsibilities of a notary public
If you meet these qualification requirements, follow the steps below to become a Louisiana notary

Order a four-year, $5,000 Louisiana notary bond. All Louisiana notary applicants are required to obtain a notary bond covering the entire four-year term of their commission. Complete a Louisiana notary application online. The Louisiana Secretary of State requires all notary applicants to complete a notary application on their website. Click here to start the Louisiana notary application.

Mail your completed forms and fee to the state. Mail the completed Louisiana notary application, the notary bond, notarized oath of office form, and a processing fee of $43.00 to the Louisiana Secretary of State.

Order a notary stamp and a notary journal. Once approved as a Louisiana notary, forward us a copy of the notary commission certificate so we can prepare your notary stamp and any other notary supplies you ordered.
